A Personal Statement from Dawn Gilbert, Chair

I have been a parent of Carlinghow Princess Royal School for 16 years and have been been on the PTA for most of those years.

I love helping to raise funds for the school. I especially enjoy the discos and seeing the children’s faces enjoying themselves. I can’t make every meeting as I am also a parent governor and a lunchtime supervisor at the school.

I have made a few life time friends along the way thanks to the PTA.

We consist of parents, grandparents, friends and children who want to help and fundraise for the children of Carlinghow School. Everyone is welcome to come along to a PTA meeting to put their ideas forward and help out at events. We are a friendly group who would welcome new people to join us.

We enjoy what we do, we have a great friendship with the school and love seeing the children’s faces when we do events i.e. discos, secret trolleys, gala days etc

We look forward to making new friendships

2017 – 2018 What a successful year!

Halloween Disco

Our first event of the year was the Halloween disco in October. We ran both discos at 4 pm – 5 pm and the children (and the staff!) had a great time. The children had made a great effort at getting dressed up and danced and played games and genuinely had fun. Prizes were awarded for games and the best dressed. We also held a tuck shop in both discos.

Thank you to all the PTA and staff that helped at the discos.

I am sure we will be holding this event again this year so if you would like to help and join in the fun please let Alison in the office know. Further details will be announced later this term.

Christmas Books

The PTA provided the gifts from Santa. We bought and wrapped over 300 books! Again, if you fancy joining in the wrapping and having a coffee with us please come along.

Christmas Fayre

A raffle was organised by the PTA and we contacted local businesses to donate prizes. A big thank you to them and to the parents and carers for buying the tickets.

Special thanks also to Sea Life, Emiras beauty, Smart Uniforms, Shama, Wetherspoons, Rices and Spices, Robbies fish and chips and Foxes biscuits for their kind donations.

We also held a tombola at the Christmas Fayre which is very popular with the children.

Christmas Shop/Trolley

This is the shop that we opened for our children to purchase gifts for mums, dads, grandparents etc. The gifts were priced at £1.50 and the children enjoyed choosing their own gifts. We take the trolley to the Reception class and the Nursery so that they can choose their own gifts as well.

The PTA bought and wrapped the presents. If you have any spare time and you fancy doing some wrapping nearer the time we are always grateful of any support. It’s a fun couple of hours and it’s amazing how much you can wrap in that time!

Mothers Day Shop/Trolley

Again this is another popular event that the PTA do. The gifts were priced at £1.50 and the children can buy for mums, step mums, grandmas and carers.

The presents are wrapped but the children can choose the ones that they want to buy. Any help with wrapping is always appreciated!

Fathers Day Shop/Trolley

Again a successful event with the shop/trolley but this time for dads, step dads, and carers. Gifts were priced at £1.50 and the children can buy their own presents.

Year 6 Leavers

The PTA provided the year 6 leavers with their gifts and we donated funds to their party. The children enjoyed their disco and looked amazing in their party clothes.

Summer Gala

We held another successful raffle and joined the school out on the front field in the lovely sunshine and had a tombola stall, a hook a duck stall and a bouncy castle.

The PTA provided the school with a bouncy castle for the day for the nursery children up to years 3 and anybody who didn’t want to go on the climbing wall and a climbing wall for years 4 to 6.

The atmosphere was great! Seeing the children enjoying themselves and taking part in new things is why we are part of the PTA. The money raised throughout the year was used to provide the children with these events.

Lottery Fund for Holiday Clubs

We successfully applied for a grant from the National lottery. The grant was to hold holiday clubs in the Summer holidays, October break, February break and Spring bank. The sessions ran from 10am -3 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday. These were free to children in the area and took place at Bleak House.

What a busy year we had. We do it all for the children and we have fun along the way. Please don’t think it’s just lots of meetings, yes there are some but you don’t have to attend them all. We don’t expect everybody to help at every event as we know people have busy lives too, just helping out when you can is great!
